Inspiring Native Women and Families through Cultural Healing and Safe Housing
The Problem:
Native American women face extreme violence and overdose rates fueled by harmful policies—demanding community-driven, culturally rooted solutions Native American women face disproportionately high rates of violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking. They also experience the highest overdose death rates in the country. Crises are on the rise as deadly fentanyl overdoses sweep through unsuspecting communities. These crises are exacerbated by harmful federal policies and practices that have persisted for generations. Addressing these barriers requires comprehensive efforts centered on community empowerment, cultural resilience, and meaningful engagement with Native perspectives and priorities.
The Solution:
Culturally-Centered Healing and Recovery Mother Nation’s Spirit Journey Healing Village is expanding its successful recovery program to offer culturally supportive, safe housing for Native women. By integrating a National Healing Model with traditional teachings and clinical practices, we inspire women to reclaim their spirit and cultural identity. Native women require wrap-around recovery services and cultural healing for both them and their families in a trauma-informed, Native-led setting. Mother Nation is prepared to expand this proven recovery program into the Spirit Journey Healing Village, increasing capacity more than fivefold. Mother Nation’s Spirit Journey House is a transitional home (since 2012) for Native women who are experiencing the impacts of generational trauma and often find themselves homelessness and vulnerable with chemical dependency. Spirit Journey house is a two year housing that provides a culturally supportive space for Native women to reclaim their spirit and cultural Identity that many have hidden to survive. Mother Nations mentee’s choose to work a recovery program from substance abuse and complex trauma, we are able to provide wrap around and custom-designed cultural services with over 22 workshops, weekly Talking Circles with a sweat onsite

SPIRIT JOURNEY HEALING VILLAGE WILL OFFER:
Two-year transitional housing in a trauma-informed, Native-led setting
Wrap-around recovery services, including cultural healing workshops and talking circles
A safe, supportive environment for women overcoming addiction and complex trauma
Mother Nation, a Native-led 501 (c) non-profit organization, is developing Spirit Journey Village in Skyway, WA.
The project has site control and a Congressional Direct Spending award of $4.98 million toward total project costs of $11.9 million.
Mother Nations’ Spirit Journey Village is the only program in the country providing cultural support, safe housing and wrap around services to Native Women surviving sexual assault and addiction.
